Via Ian, this is the story of one of the most recognisable drum loops ever.

Songs I have that immediately spring to mind (and I must have a million more) which use it in a relatively intact form:
Over to you, Dom...

You know, suddenly I'm not so optimistic about the Democrats even winning the 2008 election...

Newport? - 22/05/2008 - 12:58 GMT - [Link]

I got a bike for my birthday. Second hand, a couple of years old, alloy frame, very light, nice shocks, nice accessories (handlebar, grips, saddle). Wheels aren't great but they'll do. So I'm pleased.

The only question I have is exactly what the hell make it is. On the frame are various decals saying "Newport" and "Built in the UK" and then on the top tube is a scrawly logo that for all the world looks like someone's signature done on one of those crappy scanning pads that couriers carry these days. Very mysterious. I'm quite sure the bike isn't stolen (the shop gave me a written warranty and even took the frame's serial number) but I'm wondering if in fact it wasn't originally a bespoke frame built for someone in the UK. How exotic!

I don't often mention work but this was a big day. It took six months and I don't know how many people here and here but today, the new betslip was finally released.

If you're going to extract money from provide the best service for punters, you need to make placing a bet as easy as possible and that certainly couldn't be said about the old betslip, a maze of popup windows and links and cryptic messages. The new one is inline (on the page) and it's all shiny and ajaxy. It might even encourage people to place more mad multiple bets, and they're all about the multi-bets upstairs in Airton House.

So yeah, don't hesitate: open an account, deposit some funds, bet on something stupid and help pay for nappies for my boy!

You can't take something like the Lisbon Treaty and tie it into September 11th. You just can't. Wild-eyed ranting about global conspiracies on national radio is only going to harm the campaign you claim to be supporting.

I'm against the Lisbon Treaty because I liked the EEC and the EC more than I like the EU. I don't believe it's a big conspiracy, I just think this "Constitution" will lead to a massive, unaccountable, over-bureaucratic government run by people I didn't elect - kind of the way it is now, only worse.

However fishy the official line on 9/11 is (and the Pentagon story alone is very fucking fishy), it's still not evidence of a global conspiracy, or a New World Order or any such bullshit. People just seem to like trying to string piles of disparate facts together into a single grand theory. Sure what do you think religion is?

About

This is LeSinge.org v3.0. It's on its sixth* server since I registered the domain name in November of 2000 and it has gone through several drastic facelifts in that time, usually prompted by some cataclysmic event like someone deleting a load of files they shouldn't, or a server being shut down. This is the maddest layout yet; I'm trying to fit the entire weblog (apart from diary archives and the gallery) into a single loading page using all sorts of PHP-generated DHTML jiggery-pokery. The idea is to make it more inviting to look around since there's no loading between "pages". It's still a work in progress (more a proof of concept than anything), so be patient!

I'm Zinglebert Humperdork! Dave Whyte, an Irish CS graduate, German speaker, linguist and incredibly talented web developer. I'm originally from Fermoy but I now live in Newbridge with my wife Beth and our son. I'm currently working for these fine folks and enjoying it greatly.

"The Monkey"? Eh?

My nom de guerre comes from an old Eddie Izzard comedy sketch. I also like Calvin & Hobbes. I've cobbled together a searchable archive of the strips.
